Looking for writen guide to bending Conduit.
All conduit bending guidance seems to be done through word of mouth.
Looking for a writen guide even if ancient
There must be something writen down with guidelines, angles etc. There seem to be US guides but nothing for the UK.

Unfortunately both books and most of the google search are based on the US method of bending Conduit and seems to be quite different

In my limited experience with steel conduit there is no substitute for practice

I've got training books on conduit, tray and plenty of other stuff from the 80's when I was an apprentice under CITB / JIB
But the books go hand in hand working on site with a skilled Electrician showing you the way to bend and form conduit.

When i did conduit bending on the 2365, it sort of went in one ear and out the other, i found it much easier to learn it and for it to sink in by getting a few lengths from a store and bending it at home with a borrowed set of formers. i am what they call a kinesthetic learner, i learn by hand and doing. it then made perfect sense. albeit im lucky if i touch metal conduit more than a handful of times a year.

Yeah I did it last week on my 2365 and realised Yesterday I'd totally forgotten it all, So want some kind of written reference, I may end up renting a Bending machine and buying some lengths of conduit

A good one a mate did was to do his own garage in metal conduit.
Got some good practice and ended up with an ace looking install albeit OTT for the purpose

Having a go is fine but as you can see from Sinta upload there are specified measurements and angles for Doubles and Saddles etc.

So if anyone can point be in the direction of a copy of these JIB/CITB books for apprentices that would be most helpful.

Just did a quick Google for the above, not sure if they are of any use.......

To be honest I have never ever seen or used a book to help me bend conduit as I learnt everything "on the job" as an apprentice, may have done a bit when at college but to be honest I can't remember.

Get on site and learn how to form, set and bend tube, you won't learn it on a forum or in a book, but if you really want the books do a proper apprenticeship with a JIB company. To many people trying to enter this game through the back door and don't want to work for apprentice money and put the learning first. That's why the game is in such a mess if the truth be known.

I feel this should be as available as the On site guide or Regs a bit more precise angles etc and a little less guess work.

After a closer look at some of the American guides there is some useful stuff on angles etc that can be used

I wonder if one of those US benders would bend UK conduit looks interesting.

They do but not very well, as they're imperial sized so tight bends become a bit deformed.

There conduit "tube" also has thinner walls than ours so it's easier to bend.

A hilmor is far easier.

From what I have seen, they don't use much of it.

Or at least not in the factories I have worked in.

If they do use it, it's a multi core cable not singles run inside. Then for corners it's just free air until the next straight length.

Nobody ever used a bending block? I must admit, though, for ages now, I've used a Hilmour.
I've certainly never done any reading on it though, just practice and experience.

I've used a home made bending block out of a plank of wood and a couple of drilled holes.

I was an apprentice at the time, was only shown out of my own interest. The site was fortunate to have Hilmors so that's what I was taught predominantly to use.

This whole thread made me chuckle - very funny toward the end. It is a tough subject and appears to be very experience oriented. I would advise the OP to get one, some conduit and play around.

Crickey!! Who uses steel conduit these days?
Worked in the UK 2007/8 couldn't believe you Brits were still using the stuff. Used steel conduit when I was an apprentice more than 40 years ago. Hateful stuff.

Like most hot countries, they refrain from using steel, conduit, scaffold, in many areas, due to heat cables would get too hot. No replacement for on site experience, the last block I used was a 4 x4 post. Never seen a scaffold board used.

Thanks for the info guys , im a student and the last problem I had was the bending machine and finding the point of bending, One of my teachers shes a wizz and just does it all by eye but for me its frustrating things like that.
